How to Host the Ultimate Love Island Watch Party

It all starts with an idea.

One night after watching Love Island, I had a thought: this reunion deserves a watch party. And as an event planner, I couldn’t let it be basic… but I also lose a surprising amount of motivation when it comes to throwing parties for myself. So this one had to be a happy medium, elevated, fun, villa-inspired… but still realistic. 

Naturally, the first thing I did was head straight to Amazon and build the most unhinged Love Island-themed cart imaginable. Neon lounge pieces, tropical decor, large projector screens, cabana towels, fire-pit. If it gave “villa energy,” it went in the cart.

Because everything is content, I posted my Amazon cart to TikTok, not fully committed to the idea yet, just browsing for fun. But when I woke up the next morning, that video had over 25,000 views.

                                             

That settled it. I couldn’t let my fellow Love Island girlies down.

So I ordered everything, committed to the theme, and officially upgraded our annual “pizza and watch on the couch” reunion tradition into a full-blown outdoor villa-style viewing party.

The best detail of the entire night?

Custom islander pins.

I bought a button maker (yes, I fully committed) and printed out the Islanders’ faces so each guest could grab a pin when they arrived and “couple up” for the night.

It instantly broke the ice and made everyone feel part of the theme before they even sat down. It also brought a little bit of friendly competition because you had to be the first to get your favorite islander.

What I’d Do Next Time:

• Add a neon “Couple Up” sign at the entrance.
• Create a pairing board where guests can write their couple names.(Though nothing will ever top Nicolandria)

Since this was a backyard setup, I leaned into the outdoor villa vibe.

We had:

• Fake palm trees
• Balloon garlands for that styled event look
• A decorated outdoor snack and drink bar
• String lights

The goal was to make it feel like a colorful, micro villa, not just a backyard with a screen.

What I’d Do Next Time:

• Add LED lighting.
• Install a custom backdrop that says “The Villa.”

One thing I refuse to compromise on...even when I’m planning something for myself,  is lighting.

After the Amazon spree, I made separate trips to Lowe’s and Home Depot hunting for the perfect outdoor lighting to set the mood. I wanted it to feel like the villa at golden hour turning into nighttime drama.

String lights.
Warm bulbs.
Anything that would give glow instead of overhead backyard brightness.

Because here’s the thing: you can have the best decor in the world, but if the lighting is harsh, the vibe disappears.

The right lighting is what made the neon couches pop, the palm trees feel tropical, and the projector setup feel intentional instead of last-minute.

What I’d Do Next Time:

• Add more layered lighting (lanterns, LED accents, maybe even colored uplighting).
• Hide extension cords more strategically (learned that the hard way).
• Add dimmable options for when the episode starts.

4. Don’t Forget the Cozy Factor (Learn From Me)

I also added a fire pit to make the space feel extra cozy and villa-adjacent. In theory? Perfect touch. Fire pit, blankets, summer night air. It was giving late-night recoupling ceremony energy. 

In reality?

I forgot to buy the firewood.

Would I ever forget something like that for a client? Absolutely not. My pre-event anxiety would never let me (my checklist have checklists). But when I’m planning for myself… things get a little chaotic.

The fire pit still looked cute. It just didn’t… ignite.

What I’d Do Next Time:

• Actually buy the firewood.
• Add s’mores kits for guests.
• Place throw blankets in a styled basket nearby.
• Turn that area into a post-episode gossip zone.

5. Personalize the Details

The small details make a themed party feel intentional.

I made personalized champagne flutes with each guest’s name in a Love Island-style font so everyone had their own “villa glass.”

We also had popcorn for a classic viewing party touch. Simple, but necessary.

What I’d Add Next Time:

• Signature cocktails with villa-inspired names. (Because tell me a Huricane Huda would not hit? You'd be lying!)
  
• Custom snack labels.
  
• Customized goodie bags (yes, adults need them too!) that are shaped like suitcases for when guest leave the "villa"

Even though this was a personal party, I styled it the way I would approach a client event: layered, intentional, and photo-ready. 

6. Document Everything (Because Content Is Forever)

The TikTok of my Amazon cart is what pushed this party from “maybe” to “we’re doing this.”

If you’re hosting something fun, document it. The behind-the-scenes content, the setup process, the chaos of inflating neon couches, that’s part of the story.

For me, sharing the process made the party feel bigger than just one night. It became content, inspiration, and honestly motivation to follow through.

                               

7. Turn It Into an Experience, Not Just a Viewing

What made this party special wasn’t just the decor. It was the energy.

Everyone came dressed up.
We committed to the theme.
We made it feel like an event.

And that’s the difference between:
“Let’s watch the reunion.”
and
“We’re hosting a Love Island watch party.”

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely.

And if I did, I’d go even bigger.

More structured games.
More themed signage.
More dramatic moments.
Maybe even a full recoupling ceremony with music. (Does anyone know a good Ariana Madixx impersonator?)
